Corners: Appetising odds on Owls losing out

CORNER KING Russ Butterworth (@cornerkicktips) spotted some value in Tuesday night's Football League action.

Sheffield Wednesday v Blackburn | Tuesday 19:45

There are some big prices on offer for Blackburn corners when they visit Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday night.

The home team are in great form with just one defeat in seven since Christmas and it’s no surprise to see them chalked up at around the 3/5 mark to win this match.

However, given the relative corner records of the two teams, the short price on the Owls to win most corners isn’t quite so easy to justify.

Contrasting corner rates

Sheffield Wednesday have had the fewest corners in six of their last eight home games and have conceded an average of 5.75 corners in that period.

Despite their lowly league position, and just one win in their last nine games on the road, Blackburn have certainly put up a fight in most of those games hitting over six corners in 5/9 including eight at Leeds and nine in an unlikely win at Newcastle.

However, the away team have also managed fewer than three corners in two of their last three games away from Ewood Park.

While the solitary corner they managed at high-flying Huddersfield came against a team who regularly restrict their visitors to just one or two corners, the two they managed at Ipswich was the joint-lowest the Tractor Boys have conceded at home this season.

Rovers worth a punt

That said, looking at their overall corner form away from home since October and the prices available, I still consider them worth a punt here. There are several angles available depending on your appetite for risk.

The away team are priced up at 1/2 with a +4 corner handicap, a price that looks generous considering this bet would have won in 12/14 Sheffield Wednesday home outings and 13/14 Blackburn away games.

Despite some decent corner totals away from home, Blackburn have only won the most corners in 3/8 but juicy odds of 12/5 for Most Corners is still tempting with William Hill given the home team’s most corner record referred to earlier.

Finally, if you really want to go for it and fancy Blackburn to win more than six corners as they have done in eight of their 14 away games this season, the price of 5/1 again looks to offer some decent value with William Hill.

Best Bets

Sheffield Wednesday v Blackburn – Blackburn +4 corner handicap (1/2 William Hill)

Sheffield Wednesday v Blackburn – Blackburn to win the most corners (12/5 William Hill)

Sheffield Wednesday v Blackburn – Blackburn to win over six corners (5/1 William Hill)
