Bookings: Fernandez the perfect man to orchestrate crunch clash

GAVIN Murphy (@GamePlanGavin) returns for the weekend action with a smart view on a Sunday Serie A game.

Leganes v Sporting Gijon | Sunday 15:15 | Sky Sports 2

A big relegation battle looms in Spain on Sunday afternoon as Leganes host Sporting Gijon. This is the fixture that caught my eye because of the importance of the match. Leganes sit just above the drop zone whilst Gijon are a place below them and preparing to say “adios” to La Liga unless results improve quickly.

Not only is this a key battle but it also brings together the second and third most ill disciplined teams in Spain's top division. Leganes average 3.05 cards per game this season and Gijon 3.19.

Lost the plot

Gijon have lost the plot lately collecting seven and five cards in their last two matches as the pressure cranks up. Lose this game and it might be all over for them.

Javier Estrada Fernandez gets the whistle for this showdown. He is in fine form dishing out cards of 10-8-8 in his last three games at an average of 8.67 per match.

Fernandez

Over the season he averages 7.1 cards. He took charge of Leganes just once this term but that was last month when he showed them six out of eight cards in a game at Real Betis.

When I looked on Thursday William Hill were offering 23/20 on over 65 points in this fixture. That has been smashed into 4/6. However, Sky Bet are still offering 8/11 on 70 or more bookings points. That line has won in 4/5 of Fernandez most recent matches and that looks worth backing again.

Best Bets

Leganes v Sporting Gijon – 70 Or More Bookings Points (8/11 Skybet)

I first got interested in gambling through my cousin. He's a professional gambler and got me hooked as a teenager when you had to pay the 9% tax. Who remembers that?! These days I prefer to specialise on one market rather than spread myself too thinly. Hence my love of cards! Hopefully I can make others a few bob in the process of sharing my bets on WeLoveBetting. On a personal note I love most sports especially cricket, rugby and NFL. I support Tottenham and all things Welsh and outside of sport I enjoy reading autobiographies particularly with a glass of good wine!
