FOOTBALL LEAGUE fanatic Matt Vale (@MattDVale) highlights his favourite specials for the 2016/17 League Two campaign.

I once went to Carlisle away for a friendly, way before I had a wife, a mortgage and seemingly common sense but still, Carlisle for a friendly. Blimey.

Anyway, I mention Carlisle because I think they are in pretty good shape going into the new season. Full of goals last season, they've added more entertainment in the form of Nicky Adams, Shaun Miller and Jamie Devitt.

I'm certainly surprised to see the Cumbrians at 18/1 (Coral) for the title and at +9 on the handicaps. They should definitely have enough to see off Wycombe in the season Match Bet at a skinny, but profitable 4/6 (Bet365).

If someone handed me a Leyton Orient programme and I glanced through the squad list, noticing such names as Jay Simpson, Robbie Weir, Gavin Massey and Paul McCallum, I’d be happily skipping off to the bookies to back them for promotion.

Until my eyes wander even further down the page and I see the words MANAGER: ANDY HESSENTHALER. Stopped dead in my tracks, I’d quickly turn my attention elsewhere.

I could repeat that paragraph for Doncaster, too. Plenty of ticks pencilled in next to the playing staff but one look at Darren Ferguson and you’re suddenly using a big fat cross and an emoji of the monkey with his hands over his eyes.

Both Orient and Doncaster will do OK and should be in the shake-up but whether the guys in charge have enough about them when they’ve failed so miserably before, I’m not so sure.

So, after the apparent value with Carlisle and their goalscoring exploits, I'm going to follow a similar story and chance Cambridge again at 7/2 (Bet365) for promotion.

The U’s have plenty of goals in them with Barry Corr, Ben Williamson, Luke Berry and Joe Pigott but as I'm supposed to be talking you through the best specials markets here, go with Carlisle as Top Northern Club (7/2 Bet365) and Cambridge as a simple 7/4 (Bet365) Top Seven finish.

Nope, 7/4 isn't going to buy you next summer's holiday so go crazy and back them both in SkyBet's Dual Forecast at 100/1.

Why not, eh? Everything looks so obvious in August…

Best Bets

League Two – Carlisle to be Top Northern Club (7/2 Bet365)

League Two – Cambridge Top-Seven Finish (7/4 Bet365)

League Two – Carlisle/Cambridge Dual Forecast (100/1 SkyBet)
