IT'S Scottish National day so we got proud Scot Graeme Johnston (@GraemeJ_83) to give us his best bets.

14:25 Ayr | Channel 4

Ayr stage their premier National Hunt meeting of the season and their novice chase looks a very good race for the track. Bristol De Mai has had a long season but is the class act here, but what's the value bet in the race?

Henryvile was a smart hurdler and peaked when fourth in the Pertemps at Cheltenham last season. He is slowly getting the hang of chasing and comes here on the back of his best effort over fences. He's also fresh after a light campaign however he isn't guaranteed to enjoy the ground and still needs to improve to win this.

Pain Au Chocolat was an ace juvenile hurdler for Alan King and is the sort of horse that the Skeltons find improvement from. He has won a couple of chases however seems out of his depths here and I readily oppose him.

I cannot get away from Bristol De Mai here. Yes he's had a long hard season but he's held his form well and he encounters his favourite ground here. He ran a smashing race in the JLT and that was on ground quicker than ideal. As long as he isn't over the top he should win this easily and at even money I will happily take the chance he is still sound.

14:40 Chelmsford | Channel 4

Chelmsford step in to replace the Newbury card that was lost late on and this will be the best racing ever staged at the track. It's good to see trainers have sent some good sorts along and this is a decent renewal.

Marenko from the Richard Hannon yard comes here on the back of a listed win at Kempton and has race fitness on her side. However I'd be disappointed if she was good enough to win this and I'm against her.

Aljazzi was an impressive winner on debut of a Newmarket maiden and looks an exciting prospect. She quickened up well that day and deserves her chance at this level. However this is a huge step up and is a completely different type of course too. She's promising and there has been money for her but I think she is one for later in the season.

I'm siding with the favourite here Besharah. She was one of the top juvenile fillies around last season and finished third in the Cheveley Park on her final start. That looked a hot race and she is well ahead of her rivals on ratings here. She won on debut last season and shaped although 7 furlongs was within reach last term so the 11/8 available seems more than reasonable to me.

Best Bets

14:25 Ayr – Bristol De Mai to win (Evens Paddy Power)

14:40 Chelmsford – Besharah to win (7/4 Bet365)

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
