SUPER LEAGUE supremo Kaine Greenwood (@RetroPress) shares his favourite Easter Monday selection with us.

Hull FC v Warrington Wolves | Easter Monday 15.00

There are times when last-minute goals, spectacular finishes or crunching tackles spark a run of form that just wasn't foreseeable before that one ‘small' moment.

Hull FC's 20-minute blitz against fellow city dwellers Hull KR was sparked by a Jamie Shaul try that was part of a Man of the Match display and saw FC produce a four-try salvo in the final quarter of the game to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

There can't possibly be a bigger boost than a late, spirited and heart-pumping victory against your bitterest rivals.

It is unfortunate for Lee Radford – on his birthday weekend – that he doesn't have the present of welcoming an off-colour opponent, which his side can look to turn over in easier fashion than the league-leading Warrington Wolves will no doubt present, to further boost that effort.

It's not to say Hull aren't capable of inflicting defeat on the Wolves, because they did so at similar stage of the season in 2015, and it would perhaps prove the point above. But it is worth remembering, things were much different on the Wirral 12 months ago.

A back-up victory certainly seems like more of an outside chance than the 2/1 offered by Stan James when noting the Airlie Birds have a W2-D1-L7 record over the last 10 league fixtures. Their last home victory against these opponents was nearly a decade ago in 2007.

Warrington saw off early season front-runners Widnes on Good Friday and continued their 100% form – overcoming a early deficit – posting 28 unanswered points in a 28-10 victory that was capped off by yet another try for second-row Ben Currie.

Much like former Catalan Dragons' player Elliot Whitehead, Currie is forward in only name.

He reminds me greatly of the current Canberra Raider who has started the last few games at five-eighth in the Australian capital due his versatility.

Currie currently rates as the best second-row in the competition for making clean breaks, is not afraid to look for an offload and has the all-round game to contribute much more skilfully in attack than a traditional forward.

It is this multi-faceted ability that perhaps hampers his individual stats-sheet but means is often at the heart or on the end of attacks – just as was Whitehead was in scoring 30 tries over 59 game for the Dragons.

What should we take from this?

Well, the Black-and-Whites have conceded a try to the left edge of an opponent's attack in six of their seven outings this season and face a tough task stopping a repeat here with Chris Sandow displaying imperious form in the halves.

The in-form Wolves have posted 12 tries this season with direct assistance from Sandow and, perhaps most interestingly here, have scored 11 of 15 tries in the last two games down the side which Hull concede regularly.

Currie in particular has previously scored in his last two games versus the KC Stadium-based outfit and will be looking to complete a treble down the left here.

His eight tries to date this season have come in six of the first seven rounds – he didn't score on the opening weekend but did put in a stellar performance – and the 21-year-old Ireland international has crashed over more than once in two of first seven rounds.

The takeaway from this is quite simply that Currie to score is order of the day for us at 7/4 (Ladbrokes). We are also going for double helpings with Currie to score two or more tries chalked up at 9/1 (Ladbrokes).

Now we must wait for delivery…

Best Bets

Hull FC v Warrington Wolves – Ben Currie to score a try at anytime (7/4 Ladbrokes)

Hull FC v Warrington Wolves – Ben Currie to score 2+ tries (9/1 Ladbrokes)

About Author

A career in sports journalism was my plan until that started-and-stopped when my Uni alarm never went off. At 26, I have spent my adult life (and some of my youth) around the betting boom and relied on its social qualities to bring me interest when those I idolised as a youth fancied taking one-or-two weekends off! I'm still not over England's 2-0 defeat in Croatia but that's another story... and the slip is in the bin. My general sporting interests include football (Leeds United), rugby league (Halifax RLFC) and American football (Miami Dolphins) - not exactly the greatest grouping, I am aware! I take note of most North American sports, with a desire to one day set up camp on South Beach with regular visits to Starbucks. Paralympic sport is what I champion, as a wheelchair user and terrible tennis / basketball player I truly respect what they do. Former Yorkshire disability sports team member. One-time qualified basketball ref. Half-wit Dad. Most other stuff about me isn't printable. May we all have fun...
