FOUR out of four for Josh Healey (@joshhealey04) on Tuesday. Can his amazing run continue in the Warwickshire v Hampshire match?
Warwickshire v Hampshire | Wednesday 14:00 | Sky Sports 2
Warwickshire host Hampshire in front of the Sky cameras on Wednesday afternoon, and it’s the home side I’m interested in here.
Warwickshire endured a tough start to their campaign as they were trounced in two of their opening three outings (the other being a washout), but the ball is rolling now after two wins from the last two. The Bears appear to be clicking into gear, and once on a roll they are hard to stop, as we saw in the T20 Blast earlier in the summer.
Without taking anything away from their solid batting line-up, Warwickshire’s main strength is their methodical bowling attack; it’s almost robotic in the way it performs. Every bowler knows their role and more often than not they execute their skills to a high standard. This is where the hosts could get the better of their opponents.
Hampshire’s batting has been suspect in this competition; they have been bowled out on two occasions for scores of 233 and 209, and that does not bode well for this outing.
The visitors have recorded two wins and two losses as well as a no result at Glamorgan due to an unsafe pitch – a rare and bizarre occurrence. Hampshire were cruising to victory in that match against Glamorgan.
Glamorgan and will feel rightly aggrieved they didn’t receive the two points. This was then followed up with a resounding defeat at home to Essex on Tuesday, and you feel their confidence is shot, especially with the hangover from Cardiff perhaps still lingering. Travelling up to Edgbaston on the back of a heavy defeat the previous day is a daunting task.
Warwickshire won 3/4 there last season and it played host to a hammering of Glamorgan on Monday. For me, the Bears just have the edge going into this encounter, so given that the bookies can’t split the two sides I’m happy to get on board with the home side.
