OUR IPL man Josh Healey (@joshhealey04) was desperate to share this bet from the Wednesday IPL game.
Punjab v Delhi | Wednesday 15:30 | Sky Sports 1
This game will take place at the MCA Stadium, the former home of ex-franchise Pune Warriors between 2012-13. 17 IPL games were played during that period, with the average 1st innings score totalling just 148. It’s worth noting that the side batting first won 11 of those 17 matches, highlighting what a tough ground it is to chase on.
Kings XI played their first game of the tournament here – they only managed to reach 136-8 in pursuit of Rajasthan’s 162. In that first match we saw a green pitch that offered some good assistance for the seamers. It was a quick wicket and although the ball came onto the bat nicely, the lateral movement nullified that somewhat.
For this match I’ll be having a dabble in a market which I would rarely take notice of. Betway are offering odds of 7/4 on there being over 1.5 ducks in this match.
This bet would’ve landed in 5/17 IPL games at Pune in 2012-13, and in 1/1 this season. Also, nine games were played at Pune in the recent domestic T20 competition in late March. 3/9 saw over 1.5 ducks scored, with four of the other six games seeing one duck.
In the two head-to-head match up’s last season we saw one and four ducks scored. Both batting line-ups are prone to losing wickets in quick succession, which should give the bet a chance of landing.
On this pitch, Delhi’s danger man will be Nathan Coulter-Nile, who notched three wickets against Chennai. But you can’t discount leg-spinners Imran Tahir and Amit Mishra, as they will pose a threat regardless of the conditions.
The Kings XI batsmen like to go after the bowling throughout the whole innings and that could bring about some opportunities for ducks to be scored, particularly considering that they have not been in full flow recently.
Meanwhile, KXIP’s seam trio of Mitchell Johnson, Sandeep Sharma and Anureet Singh has been prolific in the two games so far – between them they have taken 11 wickets. I’m sure they will pose a serious threat to the Delhi batsmen today, particularly in the early stages when the swing is more exaggerated.
Odds of 7/4 obviously reflect a risky bet, and that’s exactly what this is, but my gut is telling me to take a punt on it.
