IPL Tips | Chennai v Kolkata 28th April 2015 | Sky Sports 2

WE’RE three weeks into the IPL season and Josh Healey (@joshhealey04) is back with another bet to get stuck into.

Chennai v Kolkata | Tuesday 15:30 | Sky Sports 2

Second plays third on Tuesday afternoon as Chennai (10 pts) host Kolkata (7 pts). Having both played six games, Chennai have a great opportunity to open up a lengthy five point gap over the reigning champions, which would also see them climb to the top of the table.

I expect Chennai to come out on top in this one, making it six wins in seven, but I don’t think it will be as simple as some of their other wins this season; Kolkata should be able to put up a good fight. At 4/7 there’s no value in backing the home side though.

My main bet for this game is for 28 or more fours to be scored, which is available at 5/6 with Sportingbet. It’s a bet that would’ve landed in all four of Kolkata’s games where the overs weren’t reduced, and in 4/6 for Chennai.

It may have only won in 1/3 at the Chidambaram this season, but you have to take into account these were two one-sided victories for Chennai and 24 fours being hit in those games illustrates how the bet wouldn’t have been too far off on either occasion.

This season Chennai have hit 104 fours at an average of 17 per game, whilst Kolkata have scored 73 at an average of 18. Both sides bat deep and have each performed well on the whole this season.

Chennai average a total score of 180, whilst Kolkata have chased down three targets with plenty of balls to spare. The visitors faltered last time out, but chasing 118 from 12 overs against Hyderabad’s quality bowling attack was always going to be a tough ask.

There’s been quite a few one sided affairs recently in the IPL, with bowlers dominating on many occasions, but I’m hoping that this day will belong to the batsmen on what is a good batting track with a fast outfield. The spinners should enjoy bowling here though, and that brings me onto my other bet for this game.

I’m backing Ravi Ashwin to get the best economy rate at 7/2 with StanJames. Ashwin is usually the favourite in this market and is rarely available at odds above 3/1, so this is good value.

Ashwin has gone for a lot of runs on the road this season, but it’s a different story at the Chidambaram. He has bowled 12 overs there this campaign, taking 4 wickets for 61 runs at a very impressive economy rate of just 5.1.

This bet has paid out a winner in 2/3 at the Chidambaram this season and with Ashwin performing very well in his last outing, there’s a decent chance it could land once again.

Best Bets

Chennai v Kolkata – Over 27.5 Fours (5/6 Sportingbet)

Chennai v Kolkata – Ravi Ashwin best economy rate (7/2 Stan James)
