IT was great to hear your positive feedback on our Cheltenham Festival coverage. On the back of that we've asked Graeme Johnston (@GrahamJ_83) to produce a Saturday column for us. Today he gives us two bets.

Newbury 14:00 | Channel 4

Pepite Rose won this race last year, and I can see reasons for her to follow up this year. Since this race last season she hasn't visited the winners enclosure, but she seems to enjoy racing here.

In three visits to Newbury she has won twice (both at this meeting) and fallen when in contention three fences from home.

Since this race last year she has been keeping some top company, chasing home last years Champion Chase winner Sire De Grugy at Sandown, as well as being outclassed by this years Champion Chase hero Dodging Bullets in the Tingle Creek.

Last time out she finished a modest fourth making a few jumping errors behind Midnight Belle at Wetherby, but she's been given a couple months off to recover.

Even though her form this season isn't inspiring, her course form, and more importantly her form at this meeting is inspiring! She is available at 7/2 this morning with and that is a bigger price than I expected as I can see a very bold show from Pepite Rose this afternoon.

Kelso 14:50 | Channel 4

Spookydooky trained by Jonjo O'Neill has won his last two starts, both handicaps over three miles. Since stepping up in distance he looks like a very progressive young handicapper with a facile victory at Southwell last time out.

The style of his latest victory indicates that there is plenty of improvement left in him, and though today represents a step up in class I believe he can take it in his stride.

Dougie Costello takes over the ride from the AP McCoy who is in action at Newbury but I don't see this as a problem, in fact I see it as an advantage to us as it should help us get a bigger price! 4/1 with 888 Sport is a generous price and I see him as the horse to beat.

Best Bets

Newbury 14:00 – Pepite Rose to win (7/2 Betfred)

Kelso 14:50 – Spookydoody to win (4/1 888 Sport)

Faller Refund

Place a bet on any jumps race today and Coral will refund your stake if the horse you back falls or unseats.

It's a great offer to have on your side.

About Author

I grew up watching Hearts games with my dad and playing football at every opportunity so betting on it was the logical next step! Football coupons became a Saturday ritual and it introduced me into the world of horse racing. I started watching it on a regular basis, and after Galileo's Derby win in 2001 I was hooked. I follow both flat and national hunt racing attending the northern meetings when possible.
